A COLOR STUDY FOR PAINTED CHAMPAGNE FLUTES

Pitcher Plants
& Buttercups

Mississippi Pitcher Plant

The pitcher plant are carnivorous plants that grow in our cherished and diminishing wetlands   in Mississippi. Moisture from rainfall collects on the clay soil surface, creating very muddy, soft soils that often pond. Our wetlands provide habitat for not only our fish and other wildlife, but add erosion control, and water quality improvements. Many carnivorous plants are rare and poaching is a major problem in many areas.

The large leaves resemble tall pitchers partially filled with water, they are also good mimics of flowers that fools insects. The false flowers are the pitfall trap to flies that very easily become victims when they seek potential food inside. As the temperatures rise in our summer season the leaves become purplish red from the presence of anthocyanins (flavonoid pigments found in red/purplish fruits and vegetables) luring flies. Carnivorous plants are actually quite beautiful as depicted in these photos. And in reality they hold the decaying odor of already trapped prey. Once the fly enters the hollow leaf, it has little chance of escaping.

PACKING & SHIPPING GLASSWARE WITH CONFIDENCE

Shipping hand painted glassware with confidence.
Your local lovely art markets and quaint art fairs allowed me the luxury of offering pretty little white boxes with purchase for my customers to carry home their hand painted items.

I barely had time to think about the facts needed to be a shipping professional when I began shipping packages nationally.

I have come a long way since then. It didn't happen over night and I must admit that I put in a lot of effort in research. I was forced to absorb more losses than I had planned for in the beginnings. But my customers enthusiasm and love of my creations encouraged me to keep on keep'n on.

Receiving your original Authentic American sackettdoodles® hand painted glassware in perfect condition and in a timely manner is my top priority. I take great pride in my products and pack them well for all my customers. I researched diligently in hopes to recycle as much as possible in order to save everyone on shipping and handling fees. I was fortunate to find someone in materials management at a local corporation. The conversation began with a How-to get my hands on their boxes and bubble wrap before they were discarded. We arranged what day of the week in the month and a formal time for pick up. We even scheduled email reminders to communicate if rescheduling was needed before hand. There was no second guessing. No more newspaper or brown paper in my packing. The added weight of paper had been adding up to 8 dollars above my  quoted shipping fees, not even mentioning requiring a larger sized box. One day I know that I will need to purchase my boxes and I researched options when that occasion comes my way. But until then, I intend to reclaim as many as possible right now since they are available.

Here is a Pictorial of how the Golden Turtle Wine Glasses are prepared to be boxed and shipped to my buyer on the West coast.

Carefully wrapped in crisp white tissue. I place my business card inside of one of the glasses. Due to bubble wrap unfortunately, my little white boxes are no longer adequate.

I wrap each glass in bubble wrap and place them opposite of each other; one right side up and the other upside down fitting snugly into the reclaimed card board box. The box is secured with packing tape. In this photo you will note my printed product sheet that I have made into labels. The labels assist me in locating and building inventory for scheduled shows and Art Markets.  One day a week is set aside for packing and shipping.

This recycled product box is then placed as an inner box to the shipping box for USPS and added packing is included on the sides to secure it snug in the center. The invoice is added at this phase of packing prior to securing the outer box with professional packing tape. Delivery Confirmation and the package is on its way arriving to your doorstep within three (3) to (4) four days of shipping date.

MISSISSIPPI ARTIST DONATES TO WAMA GALA 2012

The painted piece above is one of Walter Andersons. How can you not appreciate his love of color compositions and natural style. Walter is one of our infamous Mississippi artists. His story and life  was as colorful as his work. I think you would enjoy knowing more about him and his work. If you are, follow this link, it will get you started>

Moana & the Spirit Turtle Decanter
Authentic American sackettdoodles Numbered Series Collection
WAMA, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, has a yearly Gala where accomplished artists are acknowledged and invited to participate by offering a donation of their works. WAMA 2012 April Gala theme was Walter Anderson's Life on the islands. When I was approached to be apart of the event it was suggested from one of the museums chairpersons that one of my turtle pieces would fit right in with the theme honoring Walters life's works and style. The bottle above was a custom designed and painted piece just for that event and was an auctioned piece signed, numbered & dated
It also included a coordinating 'reverse' painted beveled base plate
(not shown)
I read an article this morning from yesterdays local newspaper that six (6) species of sea turtles are in the Endangered Species Act
and it is recorded that in the last 2 years over 1,100 turtles were discovered dead on the Gulf Coast shores.....the shores of my home waters.
Everything in the universe is connected.....'and as the sea turtles go, so do humans'.
I did not choose the sea turtle to be my art totem, it choose me in the month of April over two years ago....
but I will save that story for you and share it at another time......
It's raining here now; I can hear it at my windows, so I am going to go out under the patio and bask in its presence. I love the rain...........
~Wishing you a marvelous weekend~

VACATION IN A HAMMOCK INSPIRED HAND PAINTED LILY FOR LIBBEY DOMAINE FLUTES

Taking a vacation in a hammock is like flying to the moon. '-D
The Crinum Lily I shared with you from my earlier blog postings were my model
inspiration in designing these Libbey Domaine Champagne flutes.
Using my artistic license, I hand painted in intense colors with soft over glows in hopes of replicating the intoxicating fragrance to the eye of the beholder. Thus naming them
Toasting Passion Flutes
As you can see the interior is as important as the exterior if not more so, it captures the blossom's petal form in full bloom being viewed from the painted flutes pour......

Hand Painted

.......while the exterior painted flute imitates the bloom as it stands in anticipation of opening above the clump on its stalk.

Passions color extends down the Libbey Domaine signature flute stemware in a marbling effect offering an organic finish and the base is painted with impressions of six more blooms beneath from the same stalk as they do in nature.
Now if i just had 'smell-a-vision'!

Vacation in My Hammock on the Gulf Coast

My Crinum lily is huge!
I hang-out here in my hammock to vegetate awaiting inspiration..............inhaling the intoxicating fragrance which the large outfacing flowers possess. The 3.5' tall sturdy stalks are topped, starting in mid-May thru June here in the south.
This crinum was already in the yard when we purchased the 1930's updated cottage. The bulbs are similar in growth as a clove of garlic; only these bulbs have been known to grow as large as an old TV set. This lily grows on the north side of my studio against the tool shed.

This crinum resembles the Marisco Hardy Crinum Lily; the ones discovered by the late plant explorer, Thad Howard in Veracruz, Mexico. I read he found his plant growing in a naturalized population of the East African.

He named it 'Marisco' (which means "seafood") to commemorate the region's seafood industry. Very appropriate indeed; The Gulf Coast too is known as a region rich in the seafood industry.
The clump is adorned sporadically with tall stalks of large fragrant white flowers with each petal highlighted by a central burgundy stripe. Moist soils will produce the best flowering.

sackettdoodles Hand Painted Art on Libbey Glassware Decanter Set

Moana & Spirit Turtle Decanter in turquoise blue and platinum swirls has become my Fan Fave. I never dreamed that the design would be coveted on a wine glass. The first designed and painted wines were a custom order. Due to the bottle being closed off at the top the design has to be interpreted and applied in a different manner to the shape and light entering the wine glass. They are Poetry in Motion. Art Nouveau styling hand painted on reclaimed Patron decanter bottle and the wine glass is beautiful durable Libbey Glassware. Uniquely Yours & Like no other.
This is also a numbered 'Message in a Bottle' series that comes with an original tag ribboned on the neck of the bottle, a stationary paper rolled and tied with another ribbon placed inside the bottle awaiting a special message to be written and held within the hand painted vessel.
