St. Michael's is on the far east end of Biloxi. The whole of the community has always been settled by fishermen from families that left Europe and chose to settle at the edge of our then bountiful waters. Hard working, faith filled families. One of which was my grandparents. I am adding a photo to the WW which belongs there. It is 'The Blessing of the Fleet." A ceremonial where all the fishermen in their boats line up to be blessed by the Church and their pastor that is on another boat along with them, before going out to sea. A blessing for a bountiful catch and safe return. We still have the Ceremony every year as a festivity of boaters. But Point Cadet is no longer a community of just fishermen. Katrina wiped out most of the community except our church, St. Michaels. Although it too need much repair. The stained glasss is of 'fishers of men' dipicted in the stained glass windows.
Yes, I noticed the particular shape of the form. I think I have read about these 'fishermen blessings' before in other locations. Great to see the old pictures of it, too. Thank you!
Beautiful pictures! There is a 'Church of the Fishermen'? Interesting.
